Thank you SD56 DFL’ers!
We once again had a very successful family picnic, with well over 400 people in attendance. We were very proud to host Minnesota House Speaker Margaret Anderson Kelliher as our keynote speaker, and she did a wonderful job of providing insights on the past session and also pointing out how important our work has been in getting our local DFL legislators into the state house - their hard work and leadership on the issues has made a true difference in our state! Way to go Senator Kathy Saltzman, and Representatives Julie Bunn and Marsha Swails!
In addition to Speaker Kelliher and our local legislators, we were also fortunate to hear from Secretary of State Mark Ritchie, State Auditor Rebecca Otto, DFL-endorsed candidate for U.S. Representative Elywn Tinklenberg, Obama for President campaign representative Verona Mitchell-Agbemadi, State Senator Tom Bakk and Senate-candidate Al Franken's daughter, Thomasin Franken.
Thanks so much to all of you who were able to attend the picnic, and thanks especially to all of the volunteers who helped to make this picnic a success—it takes a village! And of course, a special round of applause for our picnic committee: you know who you are!
I look forward to seeing you all at our other summer fair booths and parades!

Through the election, the senate district’s monthly meetings will be held at Woodbury City Hall. We meet the third Thursday every month at 7 p.m. Please check our Web site to confirm the meeting date and location, as sometimes we do need to make changes.
At this meeting, the senate district’s central committee meets to discuss our current and future activities. The central committee is made up of district-wide officers as well as precinct chairs. These members are able to vote at our meetings, but all are welcome to attend.
We hope to see you there!

A big thanks for a huge caucus night
Greetings:
I would like to thank everyone for turning out for our precinct caucus and presidential preference vote on Tuesday night. As you know by now, the turnout throughout the State of Minnesota was well beyond what any of us imagined, and set a new state record. In 2004, we had about 700 people attend our SD56 caucus, and we planned for double that this year by adding a satellite parking lot and shuttle and making 1,400 packets. However, we actually had 3,042 people on Tuesday night! We know this greatly inconvenienced most everyone, with parking problems and long lines, and we thank you so much for hanging in there. We’re so very grateful to our caucus convenors and secretaries, who did their very best under difficult circumstances to help keep the democratic process alive and well! Please know that we’re definitely assessing changes we can make in the future to better accommodate record-setting crowds in the future.
Of course, this is not the end of the hard work necessary to change the course of America—it is just the beginning. We need your “time, talents and treasures” to help with the next big task of reelecting our State Representatives Julie Bunn and Marsha Swails, and our new U.S. Senator, U.S. Representative and President. Please watch for future information on our website and in your email inbox about how you can continue to stay involved in our local DFL activities.
I would also like to thank everyone who helped on Tuesday night and, in particular, a big thank you to Vivian Votova, Joe Ward, and Michelle Witte for all their help with recruiting and training volunteers and managing our hectic logistics on Tuesday evening, and also to Atheen Johnson stepping in to help on caucus night and enter a huge amount of data.
